Guest Blogger - Allie

Ms. Allie is a newer blogger, her boyfriend is leaving for the big D soon and she's been working on de-stressing techniques.  She is a natural blogger (at least I think so). She can be emailed here and her blog is located at Musings of a Curious Mind.  I enjoy reading her stuff because I also am curious about a lot of things, she does her research and then presents it.

We all face stress in our lives.  I know that I am a huge stressball every time we travel.  Superman likes to call it travel anxiety... I am a nut.  But she has some great tips and I realized that looking around my house, I use a lot of these methods, just in different ways.  I totally have a bamboo plant (they are super hard to kill!) that I water when I remember, it's right by the sink to make it easier.  I love spearmint tea, it makes me calm and less angry and I would kill for a beach right now and sinking my toes into snow just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Let Stress Out and Nature In:

How the little things can make the biggest change

Saying goodbye to a loved one is hard and stressful, especially in light of saying this to one that is going away because they are in the military. Everything is unknown-- the time of meeting again and how will one manage when suddenly down one parent. The whole experience can be unnerving and sometimes the long distance phone calls, love letters, and Skyping session s just aren’t enough to settle your fears and stresses. There are natural ways to decrease the amount of stress that is experienced in such a situation.

Gardening

Gardening is not simply about planting flowers and other plants, but rather it's an inner reflection of one's beauty or personality that is conveyed through gardening. It is tending to plants, pruning them, nurturing them and watering them that in turn causes people to tend to their inner selves. People then become more relaxed with not only a sense of accomplishment, but because they have straightened out that which was once muddled. It's as if people are tending to their own problems and sort them out while gardening.

Beach

Going to the beach is a phenomenal way to reduce stress. Peering out at the ocean is a humbling experience. The ocean reminds people how calm and serene the largest of waters can be. Peering out at the beach and the ocean against any type of sky allows life to become simplified. The beach has very little going on and allows for a lot of head-clearing, which allows for relaxation. If the beach is not a possibility, just go to the park for a walk or short run. Not only will the scenery cheer you up, the sunshine will help boost levels of vitamin D, which increases mood.

Natural Herbs

Simply drinking chamomile tea soothes the soul. Chamomile tea is not only warm, gentle and pleasant-tasting, but the properties of chamomile naturally reduce stress. Chamomile tea soothes both mind and body. Not only does chamomile reduce stress, but it naturally calms tense muscles. Green tea is another wonder for the mind. It is in the preparation of making tea and the simple act of sitting down to drink it that reduces stress. However, green tea's properties also reduce stress.

Whatever natural ways one seeks to relieve stress, it's most important just taking that step to do it. Once the mind comprehends that there is tending to the soul, it relieves and abundant amount of stress. Everyone knows how good chicken noodle soup is when one is sick, but another aspect of it is the conscious decision to do something good for the body, which in turn promotes health. The same is true for stress. Anyone who reads this has already made that step. Take more and take back life. Relieving stress is possible and probable once the decision is made.

a little catch up

Well, we are in the greater DC area, with the whole damn family. It has definitely been interesting, and slightly insane. I am going to apologize in advance, I am blogging on a tablet... in html. Thank you blogger for making things hard.

I will recap later at all the cool things we have done and stuff and you can spy on me on twitter @molly_danger. I am sure you will think i am nuts or my in-laws are.

The weather is gorgeous and the food is much better than north dakota. We are having a good time for the most part but could definitely use some duct tape and rope around here.

How is your weather? It is like 75 and sunny around here, I hear it's snowing in Oregon.

We will be back in action probably Saturday or Sunday.

Guest Blogger - Lauren

Today I present you with Lauren.  She's a newlywed who has a pretty great anniversary story.

Just for the record, I have been poured on more times than I'd like to count, including a Cubs game that wasn't just a downpour it was a frickin' cancellation.  It was the coldest, longest train ride I have ever been on in my life.

I wish all my rainy days ended in sweet ponchos.

Why Hello There!

I know what you're all thinking, "WTF, this isn't Molly." You're 100% correct! I'm Lauren from Going the distance: An Air Force Couple.
 .

Molly posted a blog a few weeks ago seeking guest bloggers while she and Mr. Superman are away celebrating  their anniversary(Congratulations you love birds!), and I volunteered. I haven't really guest blogged for anyone before, so I thought I would try my hand at it.

So if you have nothing better to do, stick with me today and I promise Molly will be back soon! I fully realize I have some big shoes to fill as Mrs. Danger is one of my favorite bloggers. She literally has me laughing out loud when I read her posts. So to keep with the comedic relief, I thought I would share an amusing anniversary story from my husband and I.

Boy do we have some doozies too!

We're still honeymooning newlyweds as we won't celebrate our first wedding anniversary until May, but we used to celebrate our dating anniversaries every year. My (now) husband always out did himself. He would usually plan a little get away for the two of us without me knowing. (Ok, ok I admit, I always found out, but I always pretended to be surprised. That counts, right?)

But we are two of the un-luckiest people you will ever meet so our little excursions never came without a few bumps. Like the gorgeous cabin in the mountains with the fireplace but no wood to burn. Word of advice, phone books do not make good fireplace fodder! But I digress...

Today my story is about our very first dating anniversary.

Hubs and I started dating November 29, 2007. Well the very next year the big Florida State University/ University of Florida football game fell on our one year anniversary. (Coincidence, I think not!) We're both die HARD FSU fans. Like the paint-our-face-bleed-garnet-and-gold type crazies. Neither of us had ever been to that big game and were dying to go since it was at home in our stadium that year.

At the time I was working at a sports bar while going to school(well, I actually still work there post grad, but that's a story for another day!). No one was allowed to ask off because, duh!, that's our biggest day of the year. Stephen bugged me and bugged me to take off so we could "watch the game together at home", and I was growing increasingly frustrated with him for not understanding my predicament with work. To my surprise, when the schedule came out for the big weekend, I wasn't on for that day or the day after.. Odd.

I decided it was no big deal and I would try to pick up a shift because all starving college kids need money! Much to my manager's horror I was in the process of switching shifts with one of the girls to work the big game, and she finally had to break it to me. Sweet, sweet hubs had called her to make sure I could get off work because he was surprising me with tickets to the game. (Whoooopsies!) She made me promise not to tell him she had spilled the beans and told me to quit  being a biznatch to him and go to the game!

I obliged without anymore protest and kept my mouth shut. He surprised me with the tickets the night before the game and we left early that morning. (I think I confessed to having known about the tickets later, but I let him bask in his surprise glory for a while.)

As if my protesting wasn't enough to hamper a great anniversary, it rained. Not just drizzled, I'm talking torrential down pour here! Our stadium, like most college stadiums, is outdoors. We were soaked to the bone before the 1st quarter ended and our Noles got annihiliated.(They still had Tim Tebow, curse him.) But we had an absolute blast, soaking wet loss and all! We even got pretty sweet Seminole ponchos as a necessity souvenirs! See:

Alls well that ends well!

Molly, I hope you and your Superman have a wonderful anniversary/vacation, and that you have much better travel luck than we always seem to! Thanks for letting me fill in today, I had a blast!

Have a wonderful day y'all!

Anniversary Post

Ok, so as of today at like right now (give or take 30 minutes), we have been married for 2 years.  More importantly, we have been together for almost 8 (holy crap!).

Last year I did a top 10 from the last year of marriage... found here

Well, I'm gonna do it again!

My Top 10 from Marriage Year #2
in no particular order

Hung out with my niece for a day and got to see her personality.  She's amazing.

Superman hasn't met her yet, but I'm in love with this little girl.

Met the Presidents & traveled somewhere we've never been before

We love historic things.  He likes history, I like landmarks.

Saw a real bear

If you ever go to Mt. Rushmore, you HAVE to go to Bear Country USA.  It is the COOLEST place ever if you like animals.

Survived a natural disaster (and got a police escort)

I was part of a convoy of crazy mil-wives who were making food and taking it downtown to the guardsman that were brought in to help with the flooding.  We made/donated a lot of food that week to guardsman, city officials, sandbaggers, etc.  Minot flooded to a historic level and some of the houses will never be recovered.  On the plus side, our BAH went up 40% due to lack of housing, on the downside... we live on base.

Bought a new truck

I'm pretty sure I like his truck more than he does.  We bid farewell to Lucy the Lancer this year and sold her happy non-snow-driving ass.  Too bad it's only snowed a few times.

Learned how to shoot a gun

I also learned what kickback was.  God, that hurt.

Had family photos taken for the first time

Our photographer is amazing.

Went to the AF Squadron Christmas Party, won $40!

No, I'm not pregnant.  Superman has terrible hand placement.

Superman got a new nephew (we haven't met him yet).

He's the only boy in a family of 3 girls.

Went to our first hockey game.

and... we lost to the Candian team.

This year I learned sometimes people change, but they do so slowly that you don't always see it.  I also learned that drinking the proverbial kool-aid can be just as damaging as it tastes good.  You don't need 100 friends, you need a few good ones.  I also learned that I have a passion for kids and anti-bullying.  At one point during the summer, I was coaching 101 soccer players under the age of 7.  Talk about trying to remember names.  I had so much fun and I would do it again, on different terms.  Those kids were amazing, the parents were amazing, and I seriously had the best time of my life.  Hopefully, one day in the future, I'll be able to do it all again... maybe with my own kids, hopefully with others.  I also learned that sometimes people move away and sometimes you stay friends and other times you do not.  It's life and it's how it goes.  You don't have to keep the same friends forever, especially when you start disagreeing with their choices.  Sometimes morals just don't mix.
